I now realize why I will never be a black belt in karate.... it's because I wouldn't be able to stand painting that much fence! Or sanding that much wall.... My arms are killing me!! The good part is that by the end of this, I'm gonna have guns like Hulk Hogan! I have now finished the first round of sanding the walls. Since the base coat I have seems to do a great job covering the bits of glue, I didn't spend a great deal of time on sanding. Just how I like it, quick and dirty... Since I got the final bits of sanding and wiping down finished pretty quickly, I started removing the old, crumbly plaster filler along the bottom of the wall, up the stairs. I took my trusty spatula/wallpaper scraper thingy and started digging out the loose stuff. All was going pretty well until I found a pretty big crack at the top of the stairs. Ok... no problem... have to clear out the loose plaster filler before applying new ...

Starting Afresh. New focus. New name.

Starting Afresh. I know it's been a long time since I've blogged about anything. Truth is, there hasn't been much to blog about lately. About 18months ago, I went back to full time employment once our daughter started full time school... so there hasn't been a great deal of DIY going on. I've also realised I want to change the focus of this blog a little. I've realised that being "economical" (my partner would probably say "cheap") is not something that everyone does or maybe knows how to do. It only struck me when a big group of people I know spent good money on something that takes about 10 minutes to make. In my head, I'm thinking, why would you do that? Why would you spend the money when you could do it yourself for free?? It doesn't make sense to me. Me... I don't get out of bed for anything less than 50% off and I'll go on holiday to Bermuda with the money I saved, th...

Floor Day!!

It's 5AM and I'm wide awake. Crazy? yes. Maybe it's just the excitement of the day which makes me unable to go back to sleep. It's floor day! The guys will be here at 8am (ish) to install the new hall floor and I can't wait! Five months after I started, I am now getting close to the finish line. Here are the before shots. Because I have no patience, once I cleaned out the hallway of paint cans and such, I just had to lay down a little bit of floor. The floor looks black but it's actually coffee stained oak. The spindles are almost done and stairs have begun. I was initially very certain I wanted white stairs and now I'm not. While the white does look very nice, it also shows every single speck of dust, dirt and fallen hair. I don't think I can take it. SO, the question is.... what colour to paint it?? I would probably keep the stair rises in white but what colour would you paint the treads?? I am open...
